Baking soda is an effective cleaning agent just like salt that offers multiple benefits for the house. It is very effective to eliminate odors, to keep pests away, or glass cleaner, to unclog the pipes, and many others. I’m sharing some most common purposes of Baking Soda that would really help you in managing your daily household work.
When it combined with an acidic environment, such as white vinegar or lemon juice, causes some fizzy bubbles that are able to disinfect the toughest porous surfaces. Cutting boards, wood, ceramics, porcelain and many porous surfaces can be cleaned with baking Soda and then scrape gently with a small brush to remove deep stains easily. With baking soda you can also clean stains on walls, doors and floors with its daily use. Simply moisten a cloth or sponge with warm water and baking soda and carve the stain, let stand a few minutes and then rinse with warm water, this will even remove the dirt like grease, waxes, paraffin and others.

Baking Soda has been a powerful odor eliminator. You can place a small bowl of baking soda in the refrigerator, in closed cupboards or damp locations, even in the room when you meet with smoking friends, and even near the trash.
When the oven or the microwave oven have strong odors, simply place a cup or a bowl of water and a few tablespoons of baking soda. Boiling water, steam will loosen and remove odors deposited surfaces with solid food debris.
To remove the smell of new clothes, soak it overnight in a container with a cup of baking soda, then in the morning wash as usual.
It is also helpful to remove the smell of cat urine or dog. Mix two tablespoons of baking soda with a cup of white vinegar and applied directly to the affected area. You can also sprinkle the place with baking Soda and let stand for few hours before sweeping.
Repels pests and vermin
To kill cockroaches and other vermin, you can prepare a mixture of baking soda and sugar, mix it well and apply this mixture to places where were these unwanted insects are found.
To unclog the pipes
Among many other purposes of Baking Soda, one is if you pour a cup of baking soda down the drain of the sink or basin followed by three cups of boiling water, will get unclog pipes.
For the furnace
Sprinkle baking soda on the furnace of the oven and then pour enough water to make baking soda damp. Let stand overnight. In the morning remove the dirt with a sponge. Rinse well.
Clean car battery
Apply some baking Soda in the terminals of the car battery and then rinse with warm water. Use a toothbrush to remove any acid if present, which will maintain good contact.
Clean vegetables and fruits
Sprinkle baking soda to wash vegetables and fruits. The bicarbonate acts as an excellent abrasive and don’t harm the plant but will remove bacteria and pesticides.
Make a paste of baking soda with water, clean the glass using sponge and paste; rinse with warm water.
Musty smell in books
Place the book in a plastic bag with 1tsp of bicarbonate. Let stand for a few days and then you will notice the unpleasant odor from the book has disappeared.
Some people use baking soda to soothe the skin, to close the pores and moisturize the skin. It can be used as a mask. For it you have to moisten your face and cover it with a thin layer of baking Soda paste, let it act for two minutes, this will help to regenerate the skin.
